Stupid Ichigo faces and things to read

So uh, I might be making a moodtheme of stupid Ichigo faces THIS VERY MINUTE>

I've been meaning to write this post for a while but somehow never quite managed to finish it. To make a long story short (and stop me from not writing it again), I surf the f-list at work because I can only look at formal writing for so long before I throw my hands up and scream "I need a break!", and that "so long" is not "after office hours". My f-list has walls of text that look work like but are not! And is fannish in nature! So I was pretty happy until...

The workplace banned the community.livejournal domain.

It's back again now, so I'm assuming it was a blip in the system. But it scared me enough that I started to worry - did I want to risk my OWN PERSONAL JOURNAL being banned?

No, not really. So I stopped surfing my f-list. But I still needed things to read! And since I'd been spoilt by my f-list, what could I read that was fannish in nature, with interactivity and long walls of text?

The answer? Dreamwidth, and writing blogs.

First Dreamwidth, or DW. DW IS SEXY YOU GUYS. OMG. I had so much fun on the latest post page and stalking people via subscriptions. OMG. Too bad that my active fandoms aren't there or else I'd totally be hanging out there more.

(PSSSSST: I HAVE INVITE CODES. LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT)

The other place I hung out was at Archetype Writing, written by a psychologist who is also a writer! Fun times man. And some of her tips for writing are really useful. You should check her out.

So, what else do you guys read when you're not on LJ? Tell me all about it!

OK I changed my mind, I do want to make a moodtheme of ICHIGO'S STUPID FACE.

Kenpachi so small!

I can't figure out what the juxtaposition of Ichigo and Byakuya means.

Commenting on the Internet

  • Oct. 21st, 2009 at 5:01 PM
hirako tsk
Just stumbled upon this article on anononymity and the type of comments it generates. It got me thinking, especially since I've been a bit unhappy at fandom lately.

I largely agree with the article except for one point: on the internet, we're all anonymous to a certain extent. Let's just take LJ. Yeah, you could use your real name as a username and put your photo as your avatar/icon, but how many people do? Even if we do, do we do it everywhere? Do we do it in fannish spheres?

For myself at least, the above answer is a resounding no. I like to compartmentalise my life, and I'm not gonna give our my real name willy nilly to anyone in fandom. Apart from people I know very well, I haven't been sharing every detail. By the same standard, I don't actively go looking for people's names. Like it or not, we're all wearing masks when we're sitting behind our computers. And even if we use the same mask everywhere, like using the same username to sign up for a community, it's still a mask.

That could possibly be the reason why people can still be jerks when they know they've got a common username to identify them. And it's the Internet - it's not avoidable. I need to remember that and not be a comment turtle.

Still, this:

The discussions are lively and long, and it's heartening to watch a network of strangers grow into a community of neighbors, regardless of what they do for a living or where they call home.

I wish I had more of these types of experiences. Maybe I should get out more and find them.

After two days of failed tries and websites that loaded at a craaaaaaaaaaaawl, it looks like I am FINALLY going to be able to finish watching the 3rd Bleach movie Fade to Black (with chinese subs too! I UNDERSTAND WHAT I AM WATCHING). Decided to write up my reactions as I watch here =D Note: SPOILERS AHEAD.

Imaginary Feedback

This sounded too interesting to not do...

Give me the title of a story I've never written, and feedback telling me what you liked best about it. In return I will tell you any of these from my never-written story: the first sentence, the last sentence, the thing that made me want to write it, the biggest problem I had while writing it, why it almost never got posted, the scene that hit the cutting room floor but that I wish I'd been able to salvage, or something else that I want readers to know.

Had to use the Sam and Dean icon because it is PRETTY and I almost never write SPN fic. =D

Personal Anecdotes of Colours and Cartoons

  • Aug. 19th, 2009 at 2:28 PM
avatar suki!
Once upon a time there was a little girl who liked the colour red. It was her favouritest colour, and she liked it so much that she wore it as much as she could and used it in all of her decorating.

This little girl also liked to watch cartoons. She watched everything, so she also watched a fair bit of fantasy and science fiction. As she watched, she was disappointed to learn that the colour red was almost predominantly used by the bad guys. Good guys used blue, because good guys were cool. Sometimes if the good guys were also girls they used pink, but pink wasn't red. Come to think of it, why were there so few girls on the good team? Or people with the same skin tone as me that wasn't the wizened mentor?

Now the little girl has grown up and while I still like red the best, I've expanded my favourite colours to include blue as well. The good guys no longer just have one girl or no girls, but can include a number of girls in a number of roles. In fact, I'm starting to see more all girl action cartoons now, even if there is occasionally an excess of pink. (Pink is not my favourite colour, but I've become more willing to compromise over the years.) Or makeup. (Totally Spies, I'm looking at YOU.) Characters with my skin tone are still rare enough that I am obliged to squee and make icons and banners when I find them.

Which is why I love Avatar as much as I do - Some personal reactions on the Avatar movie and the surrounding hoo haa )

So please, kindly do not watch or support the movie. The little girl who likes red would like enjoy more shows who do take things that make her who she is into account, and watching the movie will not encourage that.

Give me a number from 1 to 8123, and I will upload the corresponding picture from my fanart folder.

Feel free to make multiple requests.

...PLEASE DON'T JUDGE ME. I'm an obsessive archivist and that's why I have so many despite having to restock a fresh hard drive a while back. Maybe I should aim for OVER 9000???

The majority of the fanart is Bleach (not surprising) and Transformers, but there are some gems of Macross Frontier and other fanart packs assembled for friends. Have fun!

When I first embarked on this challenge with Ten and Aino, I was skeptical of actually accomplishing it. I'm glad to say that they have proved me wrong, and despite my missing the week 5 summary I did complete the challenge!

Words for the forthnight: 4,875 words, meaning an average of about 398 words a day.

Unfortunately, as all the 4,875 words are in a really smutty fic that I wrote as comfort food for my brain, it's likely to be posted under f-lock once it gets edited. I'm happy that I actually managed to finish a fic during this challenge, even if it wasn't one of the fics that I started out with.

Things that I learnt from this challenge:

1) I'm still hopelessly in love with Bleach, even when I'm mainlining Harry Potter fanfic on the side. (I blame the Half-Blood Prince movie for that. I have a weakness for Snape.)

2) My ship of choice (IchiRuki) might have gotten a very enthusiatic third party in the form of Renji. Which leaves my main Bleach het pairing as ByaHisa, and uh, let's just say they've been taking FULL ADVANTAGE of that.

3) Plot bunnies still enjoy invading my brain.

I'd love to continue with the challenge, but like it or not the RL that made my brain demand comfort fic is taking away my writing time. Regardless, I hope you enjoyed reading my little snippets as much as I did writing for this challenge. I'd like to thank everyone who took time out to read and comment, and if I haven't got back to you I will try to soon! I'd also like to thank the Ladies of Chat for being very patient with me, and for Ten and Aino for doing the challenge with, especially Aino for coming up with the idea!

Everyone: you are the best.

The TAR Challenge, Part 4

Week 4 of the TAR Challenge, and experiencing some fatigue! The TAR challenge is where the ladies [info]tenebris, [info]hallowd (Aino) and [info]raynos (me obviously!) pit themselves against nervy characters! rabid plot bunnies! too much RL! to bring you a fixed number of words a week. This week's action is summarised below.

Words for the week: 1,286 words, meaning an average of about 210 words a day.

No of days skivved: 2
Didn't someone say downhill was better than uphill? Doesn't seem to be the case this round. Still experiencing emotional fatigue, and a tad of overdose of work. On Friday, I only managed to sit down at 3 pm and left work at 7pm. 7!!! It's amazing that I wrote at all!

Stories worked on: 2
Lunar Eclipse fell out of favour this time. I did some work on the Fraccion!verse despite the lackluster response.

The plot bunnies however were successful this week in making me write some DESERT RANGERS (Bunny 3 here).

No of stories released to public: 1
You can find the ficlet from DESERT RANGERS here. As you can see, this snippet formed the bulk of this week's words.

Mediums used: Handphone and LJ
The handphone doesn't seem that great anymore, as I've only averaged about 100 words each time I use it as opposed to previously. Typing directly into an LJ post however gave me 400 words at a stretch. Perhaps entries allow for better continuity!

Characters of the week: Ichigo, Rukia and Renji.
The first two I'm sure are not new to you, but the addition of Renji in a romance sense was quite a surprise! I'm not usually one for Renji/Rukia, but lately I've found it to be strangely hot in a physical sense. Emotionally hmmm we'll see.

The TAR Challenge, Part 3

HALFWAY POINT for the TAR CHALLENGE. By now you should know what the TAR Challenge is about: [info]tenebris, Aino ([info]hallowd) and Ray pit themselves against the ARDOUS TASK of writing a fixed number of words a week! Every week, we bring to you the week's thrilling action in a nice summary.

Words for the week: 1,384 words, meaning an average of about 230 words a day.

No of days skivved: ... 3???
The above word count is impressive because it was in spite of me skivving off not once, not twice, but THREE TIMES this week, including today! Maybe my word count of 100 is a tad low-lying... Emotional upheaval still going on, but what makes things worse is that I've started writing at work again. This confuses my muse and results in funny things like minute-style fic... I wish I had a separate muse for work and for fic!

Stories worked on: 3
As usual, I worked on Lunar Eclipse, aka the continuation of Three-Quarters of a Dark Moon. Hopefully I'll be able to finish the part I'm working on and release some parts for you all to see!

I also worked on the Fraccion!verse, as I'm sure you all have noticed.

The surprise contender however, which I wrote 500 over words that I can't post publicly until I get the go-ahead, was a dorky PWP that I wrote last Sunday. This sounds like an occasion for Don Kanoji. BWOOHAHAHAHA!

No of stories released to public: 1
The first set of the Fraccion!verse snippets is out. Please kindly leave me some comments on the direction.

No of NEW bunnies since the beginning of this challenge: 5
I thought this was of note since the bunnies have been particularly active lately, though there is no possible way I'll get around to all of them. As you can see below:

The TAR Challenge, Part 2!

Here comes the weekly update post for THE TAR CHALLENGE. A brief recap: The TAR Challenge (TAR for Tenebris, Aino and Ray) is a writing challenge where we three aim to write a fixed number of words a week, share and glee!

This is where I thank my lucky stars that I chose a low-lying word count of 100 words a day, as you can see from the stats below.

Words for the week: 1,101 words, meaning an average of about 157 words a day

Stories worked on:
Almost exclusively on Lunar Eclipse, aka the continuation of Three-Quarters of a Dark Moon. With the sole exception of an almost drabble on the Secret Project that is Secret No Longer.

No of stories released to public: 1
You can now read The Persistence of Tactile Memory! This is a summary of the Secret Project that is Secret No Longer, aka the Fraccion verse. It's a dark What if? AU that is intended to explore what would have happened to our Six Hearts if Aizen had taken their intrusion seriously...

No of days skivved off: 2
I was in a bad emotional place the last two days (for reasons that I don't want to put down) so I skipped the writing on those days. Ten and Aino coaxed me into doing some words for today, which boosted the word count. Hopefully I'll feel better enough to write for the next few days.

Important number of the week: 3
I've had a lot of IchiRukiRen bunnies courtesy of chat with the always awesome Aino. Hopefully that translates into actual words.

Check in again next week! *FISTPUMP!*

It is a bit strange to be in a writing challenge without making any posts that contain fic. Luckily for you guys this week, I have decided to buck the trend and actually post something from the TAR challenge that can be read!

This can be read as a summary of the direction that I want to take on the second secret fic project (secret no more) that I'm working on. Namely, this particular project which is called the Fraccion verse. As you can see Ishida does not feature strongly in this, but he may make an appearance now and then.

Rough, unbetaed snippet which is an AU of the current Hueco Mundo arc ahead. As such, expect spoilers relating to that arc. I hope you like!
